Printing

3 Reasons to Print Your Photos

As a photographer or artist, you need to showcase your work and skills. Most artists prefer to circulate their work on social media sites and have no physical proof of their work. However, there is some authenticity and professionalism that comes with having printed copies of your work. Here are three reasons to print your photos.

Capture Time Capsules
Every photograph you take captures a time capsule. It's like capturing and storing a moment in time in a way that can't be erased. Every image carries an emotion, a special moment, and a display of your skills in photography. By printing your photographs, you give yourself and your clients a chance to sample all these beautiful memories every time they see your photograph.

Last Longer
Most photographers store their work digitally such as hard drives, the cloud, or on their social media accounts. However, they can lose their work permanently if the files are deleted or damaged. Sometimes, accounts and digital storage spaces get hacked or corrupted and all information is deleted or damaged.

If you print your images, you could have them longer than the digital copies. For instance, you've come across photographs of the generations before you that your family has kept. They might be worn out and faded, but they're still there. However, it is hard to trace the soft copies or negatives of the same photographs.

Can Display Them Anywhere
If you've been using digitally stored photographs or images of your work, you must know how limiting they are in terms of display. You can only post them on social media without physical access to them. However, if you print your work, there's no limit to where you can display them. You could display in public spaces, place them on your walls, or even rent billboards for them.

Printed photographs are more impressive and organic. They force you to get out of your comfort zone to perfect them. You want your audience to have the best image of your work, so you'll be keener to print quality images.

Print Those Photos
If you're wondering if photo printing is suitable for your work, the answer is yes. Printing your photos helps you reach a wider audience, keep your memories longer, and create time capsules that you can access for a lifetime.

What is Fine Art Printing

Fine art prints or giclee prints (pronounced zhee klay) are made from a high-resolution inkjet printer. Giclee prints use archival pigment-based inks and acid-free fine art paper. These pigment prints are made without light sensitivity or chemistry.

The mix of materials and printing technology produces long-lasting, fade-resistant prints. With proper care, they won't yellow, crack, or fade. As a result, museums and galleries who want to save prints for decades adopt this printing procedure. Archival pigment printing uses glossy, lustrous, and metallic photo papers, as well as matte papers, watercolor papers, canvas, and more.

The composition of fine art paper differs from regular picture paper. Fine art paper must have natural fibers (typically cotton or alpha-cellulose). The paper isn't bleached with chlorine (also known as optical brighteners or OBAs), therefore the images last a long time.

Fine art paper must be ideally adapted to receive inks and pigments because it is intended for the printing of high-quality prints. The surface layer's composition must allow ink to adhere properly over time while also providing a neutral pH to ensure that the paper withstands the test of time.

Fine art printing is a great way to produce long-lasting family photos, historical documents, photographic prints, and traditional artwork reproductions.

Answering FAQs About Canvas Printing

A canvas print is the perfect way to add your favorite picture as a decoration in your home. To ensure you get the best quality from your canvas printing, review these FAQs before making a purchase.

How Is Canvas Printing Done?

A canvas print is not the same as a canvas painting, even though they may look similar. A high resolution inkjet printer will print directly onto the canvas, and then it is stretched over a frame. Once it is stretched, it is stapled to a wood backing to keep it secure.

Are Canvas Prints All the Same?

Definitely not. There are many different types of printers and canvas on the market today. Canvas quality ranges from inexpensive canvas made for temporary use to fine art canvas with museum quality standards. Printers can vary the same way. We use an archival heavyweight cotton/poly blend canvas, archival inks, kiln-dried stretcher bars, and acid free paper backing.

Is a Canvas Printing Waterproof?

A canvas print can be waterproof as long as it has extra protection for the wood frame and canvas. Heat and moisture can stretch and loosen both the wood and canvas because they are porous materials. Therefore, canvas prints that are not protected from water should not be near the kitchen, bathroom, or left outside.

Can I Clean a Canvas Print?

The best way to clean a canvas print is with a feather duster. Avoid using liquid of any kind unless your print has an extra protective coating. Consult your print technician if you are unsure.

Will a Canvas Printing Fade?

Most modern canvas prints have a standard coating that is resistant to UV. While this protects the print for a while, it cannot save it forever. UV light is everywhere, including LED lights. We recommend that you keep the print out of direct sunlight. With proper care, our canvas prints are rated to last over 75 years.

With these FAQs, you should have a good starting point for selecting canvas printing for your favorite picture or image. Keep in mind that even with modern technology, a canvas print requires some care and protection. However, if you take these steps, your print should last a long time.

What Are the Benefits of Framed Photos?

There are a million different ways to go about home decor. But one of the simplest and most effective ways to add some personality and style to your space is by using framed photos. Not only do they look great, but they also have a host of other benefits that you might not have considered. Here are just a few of them.

1. Memorabilia

Memorabilia are items that remind you of people, places, moments, or events that have had some significance to you. Whether it is a ticket stub from your favorite concert or an autograph from your idol;p memorabilia are meant to be collected and cherished because they make memories tangible. Framed photos make beautiful memorabilia by giving your favorites a home on your wall. You can choose the size, frame, and other details to match your overall decor scheme.

2. Personal History

When framed photos are strategically placed around your home, they become a timeline of sorts that tells the story of your life. When you look at where and how you choose to display each picture, it can give off subtle clues as to what is most important to you and what events have made the biggest impact on your life. The way things are arranged is not by accident. It's a map to finding your way back to the most beautiful memory of all, "the past."

3.Damage Protection

Framed pictures are somewhat protected against damage. If you have kids, pets, or just happen to be a little clumsy, this is an added benefit that can't be overlooked. When framed using archival materials and UV protective glass or acrylic, framing protects photos against environmental conditions, so the colors of your favorite photos won't fade or dull over time.

4. Statement Pieces

Framed photos are the most flexible and easily customizable photo decorating option. Depending on your style and theme, you can choose any frame to enclose your pictures without worrying that they won't mesh with the rest of your space. They don't just add personality and flair to your décor and memorabilia collection; they also open up a whole world of possibilities as far as customization goes.

Important Announcement

Happy New Year to all of our devoted customers! We wouldn’t have made it 12 years in business without your continuous support. So, THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts.

We have some big news to share, but before we do, we wanted to reflect on our past.

Amanda & I left our jobs, 12 years ago (at just 26 & 28 years old) and moved to Ruston on a wing and a prayer, in hopes of starting a small business that we dreamed of for years. We loved Ruston while studying at Louisiana Tech, and we found the perfect excuse for moving back. Our hopes were to provide the best art supplies & fine art printing to the local community and college students. You helped us fulfill that dream, and then some!

Over time, our services grew to include artwork reproduction, photo & negative scanning, photo restoration, mounting and laminating, canvas printing, custom framing, laser engraving, and more. As you can imagine, we outgrew our location at the old corner drug store and we moved up the street to where we are now. As our services continue to grow, so does our need to focus.

This June, after the Peach Festival, we will be making a huge change. We will be releasing the art supply part of the business to, the newly opened, Creative Exchange (112 W. Alabama Ave). This decision was not made lightly. We have lost a lot of sleep, but we know this would be the best way for us to focus on our great services.

Dylan & Ryan at Creative Exchange have an immense love for the arts and the artists who create it. We feel that they will be great stewards and continue those relationships that we have thoroughly enjoyed for over a decade.

We will continue to have space for artists and makers to showcase their work.  Custom orders for art supplies, kits, etc will continue until June.

We greatly appreciate your continued support and we wish the best of luck to Dylan & Ryan in their new endeavor.

Thank you, again, for your love and support.

Sincerely,
Henry & Amanda McCoy
